UNLOCK Your values
Values are the principles that guide how we live, make decisions, and relate to others. They act like a compass — offering direction, clarity, and stability, especially when life feels confusing or conflicted. Research across psychology shows that identifying your values can increase motivation, strengthen wellbeing, and help you make choices that feel authentic and meaningful.
Values aren’t fixed. They evolve as we grow, experience change, and move through different seasons of life. Revisiting them helps ensure your actions reflect who you are now, not who you used to be.
Values work is used widely in coaching because it helps people:
Clarify what truly matters across different life domains
Align actions with inner priorities, increasing motivation and wellbeing
Navigate difficult decisions when feeling stuck, conflicted, or overwhelmed
Build resilience, especially during stress, transitions, or uncertainty
Strengthen identity and self‑understanding by naming what you stand for
This tool helps you explore what matters most, narrow your focus to the values that truly guide your life, and reflect on how to live them more fully. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about becoming more aligned with the person you want to be.
Unlocking the Keys to Your Value Check:
K — Know your starting point
Pause and notice what’s shaping you right now — your season of life, your pressures, your hopes, and the questions you’re carrying. Values work lands best when you’re honest about where you’re beginning.
E — Examine what matters most
As you explore the list of values, pay attention to what feels meaningful, energising, or important — not what you think you should choose. This is about your inner compass, not external expectations.
Y — Yield insights that guide change
Values reveal patterns: what you prioritise, what you avoid, what you long for, and what you want to grow into. Let these insights show you where alignment is strong — and where it’s asking for attention.
S — Strengthen with intentions that move you forward
Values only become powerful when they shape action. Use your core values to guide decisions navigate uncertainty, and choose behaviours that reflect who you want to be next.
