Neurodiverse Executive Function Snapshot

This Wheel of Life has been redesigned with neurodiversity in mind. It recognises that life is shaped not only by what you can do but also by the energy cost of doing it. By scoring each area on both ability and effort, you get a more accurate picture of what feels manageable, what feels draining and where adjustments or support could make a meaningful difference. This tool helps you see your life through a lens that reflects how your brain genuinely operates, not how it is expected to operate.

Why it works This tool works because it separates two experiences that are often blurred together for neurodivergent people: capability and capacity. You may be perfectly able to complete a task yet find it disproportionately tiring, overwhelming or inconsistent. Mapping both scores side by side reduces self blame and increases self understanding. It also aligns with psychological insights showing that executive functioning, emotional regulation and sensory load all influence how much energy a task requires. When you visualise the gap between ability and effort, you can spot where burnout risks hide, where small changes could ease pressure and where your strengths already shine. This clarity helps you make choices that support your wellbeing rather than drain it.

When to use it Use this tool when life feels overwhelming, when routines are slipping or when you want to understand why certain areas feel harder than they appear on paper. It is especially helpful during transitions, when planning goals or when you are trying to balance your energy more intentionally. Revisit it regularly to track shifts in your capacity, notice patterns and adjust your strategies before stress builds.
